The Best Permanent Fabric Glues

Permanent fabric glues can help you to realize your DIY project faster than with a sewing machine. Let’s be honest, not everybody loves to sew. That’s why most projects on Upcycling Couture don’t require you to own a sewing machine. Permanent Fabric Glue is a must-have if you love crafting without having to deal with the sewing machine.

Today, I’m sharing with you my best tips about how to choose the right permanent fabric glue for your DIY project.

What is Fabric Glue?

Fabric glue is a type of glue created to glue the fabric together. Fabric glue permanency and method of application can differ depending on the usage. There are a lot of brands in the market, it can be confusing to

Is it the right glue for your project?

This is an excellent question to ask yourself. It depends on the reason you need glue in the first place. Do you need to fix something temporarily because you don’t have time to sew? In that case, that might be better to choose a temporary fabric glue like X or Y.

I’m afraid the glue might leave stains, what should I do?

Some glues might leave yellow-ish stains on your fabric. You might see it quickly after applying the glue. That’s why it’s recommended to use good quality brands like Aleene’s glue, which has a clear dry.

How long should I wait for it to dry?

Usually, you will have to wait between 2h and 48h before the glue is completely dry. However, the timing can change depending on the quality of the glue you’re using.

How long should I wait before washing the fabric?

It’s always recommended to wait until the glue is fully dry. That means waiting between 48h to 72h before washing the fabric.

Is fabric glue easy to clean with soap and water ?

Most fabric glues are easy to clean with soap and water as long as they are not fully dry. Once the drying is done, it’s impossible to clean permanent fabric glues.

On the other hand, with temporary glues like X and Y, you can easily remove the glue by cleaning the fabric in the washing machine because the glue has a water-based formula.

Will the result look as good as if I was sewing?

In most cases, yes. There are a lot of projects on Upcycling Couture that have been made with just fabric glue like this Kitchen Apron made out of a pair of jeans. The finish
