Refashion DIY Split Pattern Shirt (Vivienne Westwood Inspired Shirt)

Recycled clothing is becoming more and more fashionable. Many fashion designers use Upcycling in their collections. One of the most innovative creators in the field is Vivienne Westwood.

One of his masterpieces last year was the multicolored Lottie shirt, proudly worn by Gigi Hadid herself! You’ve probably seen it everywhere online. Unfortunately, the Lottie shirt is currently out of stock. You can find a similar piece like the patchwork shirt, but it comes at a very high price (€ 690, oops!). So today, I decided to show you how to create your own version of the Vivienne Westwood Multicolor Lottie shirt.

As you may have guessed, I went hunting around in my favorite second-hand market to supply myself with raw materials. I did not find any striped shirts, so I chose two shirts in blue tones. One comes from Zara, the other from United Colors by Benetton. They are both in the same size. However, I noticed that the Zara shirt has a missing button and brown stains that are impossible to wash off. I’m not even surprised anymore since they both come from Two Market.

In this step-by-step tutorial, we will use two used shirts to create a unique version of Vivienne Westwood’s Lottie shirt. The two shirts don’t have to be Large or Extra Large (unless you like the oversize side.), but make sure they’re the same size.

For this DIY Split Pattern Shirt, you will need:

  • two shirts
  • a pair of scissors
  • a sewing machine
